Deputy Minister Nguyen Thi Ha receives the President of International SOS Children's Villages


On March 24, Deputy Minister of MOLISA Nguyen Thi Ha had worked with leadership delegation of International SOS Children's Villages led by President Dereje Wordofa Gidda. The two sides exchanged information about child care at Vietnam SOS Children's Village and some related issues.

Giving speech at the meeting, Deputy Minister Nguyen Thi Ha congratulated Mr. Dereje Wordofa Gidda on being in new position of President of International SOS Children's Villages. She shared that Vietnam always respects and appreciates the loyal cooperation of International SOS Children's Village in recent years. International SOS is one of the first international partners of Vietnam in the early opening years. At that time, Vietnam had just undergone the war with many disadvantaged children in need of care. The participation and support of International SOS remind her of the Vietnamese proverb like “One piece of food while hungry equals a big basket of food while full”.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Thi Ha has expressed her belief that International SOS Children's Villages and Vietnam SOS Children's Villages will continue to promote the good cooperation between the two over the past 30 years and make some appropriate adjustments to adapt the new situation of Vietnam today.
At the meeting, Mr. Dereje Wordofa Gidda said that International SOS Children's Village also highly appreciates Vietnam's cooperation on child care in recent years. In addition, the President of International SOS Children's Villages feel very proud of the long-term cooperation between the two sides with many effectively implemented programs and projects, 17 SOS Children's Villages have been established around Vietnam in recent years.
Mr. Dereje Wordofa Gidda wish that child care issue at Vietnam SOS Children's Villages continue to be received MOLISA‘s attention to propose solutions and roadmap towards autonomous operation of SOS Children's Villages and affirms the importance of resource mobilization from domestic organizations and individuals as well.
Mr. Dereje Wordofa Gidda also expressed his wishes that the two sides to discuss  on supplement the contents of the 1987 Agreement and the 2009 Memorandum of Understanding.
He emphasized the priority in gathering and preserve the solidarity spirit of SOS Children's Village system around the world with the goal of best care and support to children.
On behalf of the MOLISA, Deputy Minister Nguyen Thi Ha acknowledged and agreed in studying and supplementing the documents mentioned by International SOS Children's Villages to ensure harmony and conformity with Vietnam's policies and laws as well as the regulations of International SOS Children's Villages in the spirit of giving priority to children and putting children at the center.
At last, Deputy Minister Nguyen Thi Ha assigned the Department of International Cooperation, the Department of Children and the Office of Vietnam SOS Children's Villages to attend a meeting with the Leaders of SOS Children's Villages in Asia to discuss specifics and relevant contents, which based on to submit to the leaders of the MOLISA for consideration and decision.
