Enhancing capacity building for policy making, communication, social policies, gender equality and support for poverty reduction in disadvantaged areas.

On January 14, at the Ministry of Labour - Invalids and Social Affairs, Deputy Minister Le Quan had a cordial meeting with Mr. Giuseppe de Vincentis, Head Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Vietnam, Thailand, Laos and Cambodia.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees has assisted Vietnam in recent years, especially the UNHCR has been supporting and closely coordinating with the Ministry of Labour - Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA) in the activities of the ASEAN Commission on the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Women and Children (ACWC), in particular the projects "Strengthening ACWC's capacity in effectively implementing the Final Conclusions of CEDAW Committee and CRC’s Committee to promote the rights of ASEAN women and children" and "Promote sustainable integration of the ASEAN Community through ensuring the legal status of ASEAN women and children".

UNHCR has implemented many programs and projects to support Vietnam in the fields of social protection, poverty reduction, gender equality and other social issues, and organized training courses to disseminate information and improving the capacity to implement policies for the employees in the sector of Labour - Invalids and Social Affairs.
Deputy Minister Le Quan highly appreciated the good results between the two sides. He hoped that the Head Representative continued to pay attention to helping Vietnam, especially the capacity building for policy making, communication, social policies, gender equality and support for poverty reduction in disadvantaged areas.
"The UNHCR continues to support the project on the legal status of women and children in ASEAN, which Vietnam is the focal point in the work plan of the ASEAN Commission on the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Women and Children (ACWC) and relating activities within the ASEAN framework of each member country, especially the role of ASEAN Chairmanship of Vietnam in 2020 "- Deputy Minister Le Quan emphasized.
Thank UNHCR for the active support to Vietnam in particular and ASEAN in general for activities relating to the promotion of ASEAN women's and children's rights and relating activities within the ASEAN framework of each member country, especially the role of ASEAN Chairmanship of Vietnam in 2020.
Mr. Giuseppe de Vincentis expressed his happiness when returned to Vietnam and saw the programs and projects are still implemented effectively. At the same time, he said that Vietnam will be an important partner of UNHCR, in the coming time UNHCR pledged to continue supporting Vietnam on the path that the two sides have chosen. Along with that, UNHCR is also actively supporting Vietnam in addressing the issue of Vietnamese women losing their nationality when marrying foreigners; …
 
Since 2011, UNHCR has been supporting and closely coordinating with the Ministry in the activities of the ASEAN Commission on the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Women and Children (ACWC), in particular projects " Strengthening ACWC's capacity in effectively implementing the Final Conclusions of the CEDAW Committee and the CRC Committee to promote the rights of women and children in ASEAN" and "Promote the sustainable integration of the ASEAN Community through ensuring the legal status of ASEAN women and children". In particular, in 2020, it is expected that UNHCR will continue to support ACWC Vietnam to organize the launch of the Regional Report and the 10th Anniversary of ACWC Vietnam.
