Minister Dao Ngoc Dung receives ASEAN Secretary General

On December 03rd, 2019, in Hanoi, Minister of Labour – Invalids and Social Affairs Dao Ngoc Dung and ASEAN Secretary General Lim Jock Hoi had a discussion on the priorities, initiatives and activities in socio-cultural channel ASEAN 2020 and the abilities of cooperation, support of ASEAN Secretariat for Vietnam in the ASEAN Chairmanship 2020.

In the meeting, the Minister Dao Ngoc Dung welcomed Mr. Lim Jock Hoi and the officials of ASEAN Secretariat to visit Vietnam and attend the Conference on communications and preparations for ASEAN Chairmanship 2020 held by MOLISA. According to the Minister, MOLISA has actively prepared the works with the role of coordination agency for ASEAN Socio–cultural pillar of Vietnam.

Minister Dao Ngoc Dung revealed that in 2020, there are 5 priorities including: Promoting the role of each member countries, creating the support each other to mobilize the strength; boosting, connecting the region and improving the adaptive capacity to the forth revolution in order to enhancing inclusive development with 3 issues on labour skills, satisfactory jobs and sustainable social security; Promoting the cultural identities of ASEAN countries to create common values of the Community; Strengthening partnerships in the field of socio-culture, especially issues relating to children, women, culture and human resources; Improving adaptive capacity and operational efficiency of ASEAN.

According to Minister Dao Ngoc Dung, besides the mid-term review of the implementation of the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community Master Plan, MOLISA will promote the completion of documents to submit to the 36th and 37th ASEAN Summit in 2020, especially, MOLISA will focus on the ASEAN Declaration on Human Resource Development and the Declaration on Social Work Development in ASEAN.
At the meeting, Minister Dao Ngoc Dung proposed that the Secretary General and officials of the ASEAN Secretariat continue supporting and coordinating closely with Vietnam in general and the Ministry of Labour - Invalids and Social Affairs in particular in 2020, especially in developing a roadmap for implementation, providing technical assistance, mobilizing resources of ASEAN development partners to realize initiatives.
In response to Minister Dao Ngoc Dung, Mr. Lim Jock Hoi thanked Minister Dao Ngoc Dung for the information and agreed with the proposals of MOLISA as well as congratulating the Ministry for successfully organizing the Conference on Communications and preparations for the ASEAN Chairmanship 2020. According to Mr. Lim Jock Hoi, this is a practical and effective conference to discuss plans for 2020, all ministries and agencies have their comments which are suitable to the topic Vietnam has proposed in 2020 – “cohesion and adaptation”.
At the same time, Mr. Lim Jock Hoi also congratulated the Minister on the National Assembly's adoption of the amended Labour Code. “This is a resounding success and a big and meaningful mark on labour and social affairs that the ASEAN Community has been making efforts, especially raising the retirement age, increasing the number of labour organizations in the enterprise ”- Mr. Lim Jock Hoi emphasized.
According to Mr. Lim Jock Hoi, the contents of the Labour Code help greatly in the orientation of the development of ASEAN Community in the forthcoming time, especially regarding the ASEAN Declaration on Human Resource Development and Social Work to submit to ASEAN Summit. The ASEAN Secretariat will endeavor to assist the Ministry of Labour - Invalids and Social Affairs in the process of completing the above Declaration.
