Action month for gender equality and prevention of gender based violence 2019: Stop violence against women and children

  On November 09th, 2019, in Quang Ngai province, Ministry of Labour – Invalids and Social Affairs in cooperation with Provincial People’s Committee of Quang Ngai held the Launching Ceremony of Action month for gender equality and prevention of gender based violence 2019 with the theme “Stop violence against women and children”. Attending the Ceremony were Mr. Le Van Thanh, Deputy Minister of Labour – Invalids and Social Affairs, mrs. Bui Thi Quynh Van, Permanent Vice Secretary of the Provincial Party’s Committee, President of the Provincial People’s Council; Mrs. Dinh Thi Hong Minh, Vice President of Provincial People’s Committee; representatives from the United Nations Population Fund in Vietnam and representatives from ministries, sectors, central agencies, international partners and 700 officials, students in locality.

Recently, Vietnam has been assessed as one of the country which caught many achievement on gender equality, eliminating gender gap, especially in the field of labour, employment, health care, education…

 
At the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Labour – Invalids and Social Affairs Le Van Thanh says that: the highlighting of implementation of gender equality in Vietnam is completing legal framework, policies on gender equality which creates the opportunities for women to access and participate in fields of the social life. Vietnam is one of the best 10 countries on the world implementing the 5th goal on gender and empowerment for all women and girls…
 
To achieve this progress, all levels and sectors have made great efforts in implementing gender equality and gender-based violence prevention and control in order to create changes in social awareness and action towards gender equality in recent times.
 
However, besides the achievements, there are still many challenges in ensuring substantive gender equality between men and women. The causes of gender-based violence are rooted in gender inequality, which places a greater emphasis on the role of men than women and girls. This requires strong, active engagement and action of agencies, organizations and people in the community, especially women, girls and men in implementing gender equality and preventing gender-based violence and combat.
 
Deputy Minister Le Van Thanh emphasized: An equal society is a society without violence and abuse of women and children. That goal will be realized if all levels, sectors and the whole community actively commit and take concrete and practical actions. Consider gender-based violence prevention, especially for women and children, that is not only the responsibility of state authorities but also the responsibility of all levels, sectors and the whole community. The active participation of both the political system and the whole society will create great strength towards the goal of building a safe and equal environment for women and children ...
 
The highlight of the Launching Ceremony this year is the hand-in-hand of the departments and agencies of Quang Ngai province and international partners, agencies and enterprises in the province through practical activities, such as: Signing Ceremony in response to the Month of Action of departments, branches of the province, activities awarded 03 gratitude houses to people with meritorious services to the revolution, presented 30 gifts and 300 warm clothes for poor women and children, presented books to improve life skills for girls and children little brother for some school. Many events on the sidelines of the Launching Ceremony will also be held simultaneously to create media effects such as: parade walking; Flashmob Dance; drawing competition on the topic of violence against women and girls (in cooperation with UNFPA); discussion on the pioneering role of men in promoting gender equality and ending violence against women and girls in 1 coastal commune; thematic activities under the banner of violence prevention in schools and public places at 01 secondary school (in cooperation with Plan International Vietnam) ...
 
Along with the launching ceremony of the National Action Month for gender equality and prevention of gender-based violence in 2019 in Quang Ngai, thousands of activities in response to the Action Month are expected across the country with different scales and attract the participation of hundreds of thousands of people across the country.
