On July 26, 2018, at the Ministry's headquarters, Minister Dao Ngoc Dung had a meeting with Mr. Bernd Lange, Chairman of the European Parliament Committee on International Trade on the occasion of his visit to Vietnam. Attending the meeting were leadership representatives of Department of International Cooperation, Department of Legal Affairs, Department of Industrial Relations and Wage and related units.
At the meeting, the two sides discussed on the issues surrounding the signing and ratification of the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), especially the labour issues.
At the meeting, Mr. Bernd Lange expressed his pleasure and appreciated that the two sides formally completed the legal review process of the EVFTA Agreement on June 25 and the Agreement will be submitted to the Authorities to sign and ratify as the regulations of the two parties.
Informing on the activities of the Ministry has been done to support the process of signing, ratifying and implementing EVFTA, Minister Dao Ngoc Dung said that on the Vietnamese side, to improve the law and labour policies towards the implementation of labour commitments in free trade agreements, at the fifth session (May, 2018), the National Assembly approved the program of building Law and Ordinance 2019, at the same time, the Ministry also proposed a roadmap for the ratification of three basic ILO’s Conventions.
MOLISA has also established a Working Group and Technical Working Group on Free Trade Agreements (FTA Working Group). The key task of this Group in 2018 is carrying out activities that support and enhance the process of signing and ratifying EVFTA.
Finishing the meeting, Minister Dao Ngoc Dung pledged to seriously implement the issues discussed. MOLISA has been ready to work with the EU to agree on the work should be done as well as building a framework for cooperation between the two sides.
