Minister Pham Thi Hai Chuyen welcomed the UN Women Representative in Vietnam

On the afternoon of July 15, 2013, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Labour - Invalids and Social Affairs, Minister Pham Thi Hai Chuyen had a meeting with Representative of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) in Vietnam, Ms. Sô Cô-I-si-ka-oa.







     Also attending the meeting was Ms. Le Kim Dung, Director of the Department of International Cooperation, Mr. Pham Ngoc Tien, Department of Gender Equality, Ministry of Labour - Invalids and Social Affairs.
 
     At the meeting, the Minister of the MOLISA Pham Thi Hai Chuyen congratulated Ms. Sô Cô-I-si-ka-oa for the position of representative of the UN WOMEN in Vietnam; She has recorded  the support of the UN Women's Development Fund - the first international partner of the Ministry of Labour - Invalids and Social Affairs in the field of gender equality since the year 2007 - 2008, through activities to support the development and proposal strategy, policy, programs and initiatives on gender equality. Minister Pham Thi Hai Chuyen highly appreciated the support of this Fund (now is the UN Women) in recent times, especially to support capacity building for the relevant agencies of Vietnam on equality and the execution and implementation of the Gender Equality Law issued in 2007; Specifically, the UN Women has supported Vietnam through the jointly programs Vietnam - United Nations on gender equality in the period 2009 – 2012; Project of Empowerment of Women Working Abroad (2008 - 2012); Project of strengthening gender mainstreaming in policy formulation and policy implementation in the period 2010 – 2011; Technical assistance for Vietnam to complete the report on the implementation of the Convention on the elimination of forms of discrimination against women, the report has been submitted to the Committee of the Convention to receive comments, contributions and will finalize the report; Technical support for the building up and completion of the National Strategy on Gender Equality and the National Program on Gender Equality; Technical assistance for Vietnam to complete the report on the implementation of the Convention on the elimination forms of discrimination against women, the report has been submitted to the Committee of the Convention to receive comments, suggestions and will complete the report; Technical assistance to develop and finalize the National Strategy on Gender Equality and the National Program on Gender Equality; Supporting the project of capacity building for the implementation and evaluation of the strategy and the National Program in the period 2012 - 2016.
 
     For the Ministry of Labour - Invalids and Social Affairs, Minister Pham Thi Chuyen noted the support of the UN Women in the connection of Vietnam to international and the area in the field of gender equality, to implement the international, regional and ASEAN commitments in the past time. The UN Women has the support of technical and financial activities within the framework of a number of the ASEAN Commission; Supporting the Ministry of Labour - Invalids and Social Affairs in coordination role to implement the ASEAN’s project on empowerment women and children of ASEAN through the implementation of the recommendations of two international conventions on women's rights and children's rights; supporting the networking activities of Commission on the Promotion and Protection of the rights of ASEAN's women and children in national level.
 
     In cooperation plan ahead, Minister Pham Thi Hai Chuyen proposed the UN Women continue to technical & expertise support on gender equality at the both levels of basic and advanced; to improve the qualifications of staff working on gender equality in the central and local levels in order to help the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs in the successful implementation of the Strategy and the National Program on Gender Equality to 2015 and subsequent years; simultaneously concerned with the prevention of domestic violence, sexual abuse against women and girls and combat trafficking in women and children ...

     Speaking at the meeting, Ms. Sô Cô-I-si-ka-oa committed to continue  cooperating and coordinating closely with the Vietnamese Ministry of Labour - Invalids and Social Affairs in the gender equality, especially the implementation of Strategy and the National Programfor gender equality. The UN Women is ready to support the MOLISA to mobilize resources to focus the work of gender equality in Vietnam, while continuing to deploy and replicate some models perform gender equality and participate actively to support this work in mountainous and remote areas and regions inhabited by ethnic minorities ...
