Minister Pham Thi Hai Chuyen welcomed the Executive Director of the UNICEF

On the morning of May 29, 2013, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Labour, Minister Pham Thi Hai Chuyen had a cordial meeting with Mr. Anthony Lake - Executive Director and Ms. Lotta Sylwander, the UNICEF Representative in Vietnam during a working visit of the delegation. Attending the meeting were Deputy Minister Doan Mau Diep and leaders of the Department of International Cooperation and Department of Child Care and Protection.






    At the meeting, the Minister Pham Thi Hai Chuyen expressed sincere thanks and appreciation to the effective financing of the UNICEF in Vietnam for many years and hopes to continue to receive the help of UNICEF to be able to provide the best living conditions for children, especially children with disabilities in Vietnam.
 
     The Minister also said that Vietnam is the second country in the world and the first country in Asia to ratify the Convention on the Rights of the Child by the United Nations (1990), and nearly one year later enacted Protection, Care and Education of Children Law (1991) and in the past 20 years, Vietnam has proposed and implemented the National Programme of Action for Children 1991-2000 and the 2001-2010 and set up many policies, documents to guide the standards, regulations, program objectives, projects, build organizational structure, layout and training for staff management, construction and development for organizations, provide services related to the aim of protecting & care for children. Thus, the work of protection, care and education of children has made positive changes.
 
     In addition to these encouraging results, the care and protection of children is limited. The Minister expressed the desire to continue to receive financial support as well as technical assistance from the Unicef and other organizations to further improve the quality of care and child protection in Vietnam, creating favorable conditions for them to have opportunity to participate and benefit policies in an optimal way.
 
    About the side of the UNICEF, Mr. Anthony praised Vietnam's efforts and coordination among agencies in the development of social security and assistance & support for people with disabilities, especially children with disabilities. He also hopes that in future, the Government of Vietnam will achieve much progress in the child care and protection.
