Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan awards the Friendship Medal to Chairman of Nippon Foundation

On 28 January 2013, at the Presidential Palace, Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan awards the Friendship Medal of the State of Vietnam to Mr. Yohei Sasakawa, Chairman of Japan Nippon Foundation. Deputy Minister of MOLISA Doan Mau Diep, representatives of MOLISA’s Department of International Co-operations, MOLISA Office, President Office and related offices also attend the grand ceremony.






     Speaking at the ceremony, Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan confirms that the visit of Mr. Yohei Sasakawa is a living example of good relations between the peoples of Vietnam and Japan. From 1992 to present, Japan Nippon Foundation has donated nearly USD 28 million to Vietnam, including USD 11 million to support the disabled. Mr. Yohei Sasakawa himself and the Japan Nippon Foundation have actively carry out charity activities in Vietnam, examples are provision of over 50.000 artificial limbs and wheelchairs to the disable Vietnamese, construction of over 100 primary schools for minority groups at remote areas, implementation of various learning and talent promotion activities at universities and provinces of Vietnam. Madam Nguyen Thi Doan expresses her hope that the Japan Nippon Foundation shall continue its co-operation with Vietnam to support the disable Vietnamese to improve their independent capacities in livelihood activities through assistances to rehabilitation, vocational training, micro-credits, job creation, compilation of legal framework legislation and policies related to social work activities in Vietnam.
 
     Mr. Yohei Sasakawa confirms that Nippon Foundation of Japan shall continue its support to Vietnam in the area of assistance to the disabled and the disadvantage groups.
 
     Mr. Yohei Sasakawa and the Japan Nippon Foundation has known and appreciated worldwide for their charity achievements and foundation of various international, regional and bilateral charity funds. Mr. Yahei Sasakawa is well-known for his initiatives in a number of big projects in rural development, public medical care, support the disabled, human resource management and networking to provide educational opportunities to people in many countries.
 
     On behalf of MOLISA, Deputy Minister Doan Mau Diep confirms Vietnam’s appreciation of Nippon Foundation and the Chairman for their cross-cutting assistance projects in various areas, including social activities, education, health care, social security, environment, rural development, and support to the disadvantage groups. MOLISA shows its appreciation towards the contribution of Nippon Foundation by making recommendation to the State of Vietnam for award of the Friendship Medal to Mr. Yahei Sasakawa. The Friendship medal is the highest rank of State medal given to foreigners for their outstanding contributions to the construction course of Vietnam, in this particular case the Medal is also an appreciation to Mr. Yohei Sasakawa’s contribution to the Japan-Vietnam friendship. 
 
     On behalf of the State of Vietnam, Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan has awarded the Friendship Medal to Mr. Yahei Sasakawa to express Vietnam’s appreciation and recognition of his significant contribution to the country.
