Deputy Minister Le Tan Dung receives Head Representative of United Nations Population Fund in Vietnam

On November 25th, 2019, at the Ministry Head office, Deputy Minister Le Tan Dung had a cordial meeting with Mrs. Naomi Kitahara – New Head Representatives of United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Vietnam. Attending the meeting were Leadership representatives from the Department of International Cooperation, Department of Gender Equality, Department of Social Assitances, Institute of Labour Science and Social Affairs.

At the meeting, Deputy Minister Le Tan Dung congratulated Mrs Naomi Kitahara for getting new position as Head Representative of UNFPA in Vietnam. The Deputy Minister highly appreciated the coordination, sharing of UNFPA for the past time and hoped that UNFPA would accompany with MOLISA in coping with the challenges in aging population, gender equality and deal with gender based violence.

Mrs. Naomi Kitahara thanked Deputy Minister Le Tan Dung for the warm welcome. She highly appreciated the comprehensive cooperation of MOLISA relating to gender equality and deal with gender based violence as well as solving the gender imbalance at birth and the issue of the elderly in Vietnam. The new Head Representative of UNFPA also recommended many cooperation activities between the two agencies in the forthcoming time. At the same time, Mrs. Naomi Kitahara also sharing the issues relating the Survey on the violence against women and management of the data of this Survey. This Survey contained much sensitive information, therefore, she hoped that the related units which manage the data of this Survey would be careful and ensure the security for the data.
Deputy Minister Le Tan Dung thanked the Head Representative of UNFPA in Vietnam for the meaningful comments and recommendations. The Deputy Minister also shared that currently MOLISA has reviewed the general content of Law on Elderly and Law on Gender Equality. He also said that MOLISA drastically implement the policies on gender equality and prevention of gender based violence and combat. At the meeting, the Deputy Minister agreed and committed to ensure the security of the information relating to the Survey on violence against women. He also said that MOLISA would accompany with the relating ministries, sectors, agencies in order to effectively and practically implement the master project on social security together with UNFPA, UNICEF and ILO…
