Vietnam - Saudi Arabia to strengthen cooperation in the field of labour housemaid


On May 6, 2013, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, Deputy Minister Nguyen Thanh Hoa had a cordial meeting with Mr. Ahmed Fahadi Alfahaid - Deputy Minister of Labour, Saudi Arabia, and exchanges some issues on labour cooperation, which focuses on the field of labour housemaid in families.

     Vietnam and Saudi Arabia established formal diplomatic relations since 1999. Since then, the relation between the two countries has developed rapidly in all fields. Regarding labour cooperation, Vietnam now has nearly 1.6 thousand workers are working in Saudi - Arabia in areas such as construction, mining and processing of oil and gas, engineering, agricultural production and other services.
     At the meeting, Mr. Ahmed Fahadi Alfahaid highly appreciated the relationship of friendly cooperation between the two countries in recent years particularly in the area of ​​labour and employment. He said that the purpose of his visit is to discuss with the MOLISA to clarify the issues surrounding the draft on labour cooperation in the field of labour housemaid that Saudi Arabia has sent to Vietnam before, to be concluded in the shortest time.
    More information about the labour market in the country, Mr. Fahadi Alfahaid Ahmed showed that, the current demand for human resources, especially housemaid working in Saudi Arabia is very large, so they always has the open policy to attract foreign labour workers, especially workers in Vietnam. Moreover, Saudi Arabia is also interested in the construction of infrastructure and legal framework, so foreign workers here will be working in a good environment and ensure adequate interests.
     At the meeting, on behalf of the Ministry of MOLISA, Deputy Minister Nguyen Thanh Hoa thanked the good feelings of Saudi Arabia. The Deputy Minister said that Vietnam has cooperated on labour with several countries in the world for many years, but for the Gulf countries in general and Saudi Arabia in particular, the cooperation is only 10 years. Labour housemaid is still sensitive field in Vietnam, it have different characteristics than jobs in other sectors, although this kind labour Vietnam has signed with countries in the region for more than ten years as Taiwan, Malaysia, South Korea, ... So the Deputy Minister asked the two sides to clarify the issues in the draft in order to ensure the rights and obligations for Vietnamese employees working in Saudi Arabia. He also asks for Saudi Arabia's cooperation with Vietnam to organize labour cooperation forums for the two countries in order to have more opportunities to meet and exchange, enhance mutual understanding.
     On this occasion, the Deputy Minister invited Mr. Ahmed Fahadi Alfahaid and other members of the delegation visit a number of labour export companies in Vietnam to better understand the process and the way to recruit, manage of labour in Vietnam.
