3rd ASEAN Forum on Migrant Labour

The 3rd ASEAN Forum on Migrant Labour took place in Hanoi on 19 - 20 July 2010 with the theme “Enhancing awareness and information services to protect the rights of migrant workers”. The participants included Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of Labour – Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA) Nguyen Thanh Hoa and more than 100 delegates from 3 parties (Governments, employers and employees) of ASEAN members, international organizations, non-governmental organizations, socio-civil organizations and some labour export companies.

From July 1st, 2010: Japan implements many beneficial policies for trainees

From July 1st, 2010, the Law on amending and supplementing immigration management and refugees recognisation of Japan officially comes into force. According to Japanese side, the amendment and supplement to this policy is aimed to better protect legitimate interests and steady legal status of foreign trainees. Besides, it is also aimed to change the perception of some agencies, enterprises receiving foreign trainees, help them understand the goal of the program is to transfer skills, technology and knowledge researched and developed by Japan to developing countries, rather than using foreign trainees as cheap labourers.

Additional 11 labourers living in poor districts went to Japan for training

On July,7th, 2010, in Hanoi, the Overseas Worker Center held a closing ceremony of the training course and sent 42 labourers, including 11 Labourers living in the poor districts of five provinces Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Dien Bien, Thanh Hoa and Quang Tri to Japan for training under the agreement between the Ministry of Labour - Invalids and Social Affairs and the Association for International Manpower Development of Small and Medium Enterprises in Japan (IMM Japan ).

Overview of the 99th international labour plenum

The 99th plenum of the International Labour Organization (ILO) 2010 took place from 30 May to 19 June 2010 while the global economy has been recovering from the crisis, however, the recovery is not really stable. The economy downturn still influences the employment in many countries and regions. In the face of ongoing challenges, as per ILO’s recommendations to the countries, besides the positive measures for recovering and maintaining economy development, it is necessary to have effective policies such as improving the quality of employment, better protecting the basic rights of labourers especially the disadvantaged groups, home labourers, opposing child labour, ect.

Awarding The Medal For the Cause of Labour - Invalids and Social Affairs to International experts

On June, 23rd, 2010, at the office of the Ministry of Labour - Invalids and Social Affairs, Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan awarded the Medal For the Cause of Labour - Invalids and Social Affairs to Mr. Jesper Morch, Chief Representative of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Vietnam and Mr. Martin Rama, Chief Economic Expert of the World Bank (World Bank) in Vietnam.

Signing contract non-refundable aid for local between the National Fund for Vietnamese Children and the Japanese Embassy

In the afternoon of June 5, 2010, at the Embassy of Japan in Vietnam, a ceremony signing the contract non-refundable aid of the Japanese Government for the project “Building a rehabilitation center for children with disabilities in Ha Giang province”. Sir Mitsuo SAKABA, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Japan in Vietnam and Ms Vu Anh Dao, Director of the National Fund for Vietnamese Children signed an aid contract for this project with total budget of 67.294 USD.

Contribution of women to socio-economic development

It is the topic of the meeting organized by The National Committee for the Advancement of Women in Vietnam in collaboration with “Empowerment of Women” project dated 14 June 2010 and chaired by the Minister of Labour – Invalids and Social Affairs Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan – Chairwoman of the Committee. The meeting was attended by Madam Helen Clark – General Director of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), New Zealand’s Former Prime Minister and many officials in the diplomatic body together with the female leaders of the National Assembly, Ministries, branches and industries of Vietnam.
